I lit the candle, which instantly gave off a thick, sweet festive scent nutty, fruity and rich, like a Christmas pudding had just been taken out of the oven. I received the Negroni four 92.5ml bottles of the stuff, which required nothing more than pouring over ice. You can choose from four cocktails (White Russian, Old Fashioned, Espresso Martini or Negroni), each one hand-mixed by Buveur, a London-based cocktail company that uses British spirits. It deserved to be experienced properly, so I dug out my best serving dishes, my favourite cocktail glasses and invited my best friend round for some socially distanced drinks (while we were still allowed). The box contained (deep breath): four cocktails, two bars of Winter Spice dark chocolate, one packet of mince pie popcorn, one bag of olives, one Cocktail Hour Nutcracker candle, and a Cocktail Hour Food and Drink guide including playlist details of tunes to listen to while you drink.Įverything is branded in The Cocktail Hour’s chic packaging, even down to the candle.

This wasn’t just a cocktail delivery, but a full festive experience, missing only a partridge in a pear tree. The Vegan Honey Old Fashioned was rich, smooth but complex. Both were described as “over-ice sippers”, so all we needed to do was pour over ice and enjoy. Next, we turned our attention to the other two bottles. I shared the cocktail between two glasses, topped up with fizz, added some mint leaves and sipped away on a delightfully fresh and fruity concoction, so delicious that I cursed when I took my last sip, wishing the bottle was bigger. I have a tradition of drinking Prosecco while putting my Christmas tree up, and as it was December 1st and the instructions for the Strawberry Aperitivo were to “add to some bubbles - soda, tonic, or Prosecco…” I figured it would be just right to start with this one. So we did exactly what those little cards told us to do. Each bottle came only with a small A5 card describing the best way to drink the concoction.

There were no garnishes, no cocktail shaker in fact, no frills at all. Lyaness is number 29 on the World’s Best Bars list, yet there was nothing fancy about these bottles, labels, or the packaging they came in. They came from Lyaness, Ryan Chetiyawardana’s (aka Mr Lyan’s) Thameside bar at Sea Containers London, whose team have bottled up five of the most popular cocktails for its thirsty fans to enjoy at home.
